廖婉君 Wanjiun Liao
Wanjiun Liao received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1997. She is a Chair Professor at the National Taiwan University (NTU) and a National Chair Professor at the Ministry of Education (MoE), Taiwan. She is an Executive Vice President of NTU (臺大副校長), Taiwan, and an Adjunct Research Fellow of the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. Dr. Liao was the Department Chair of Electrical Engineering of NTU (臺大電機系主任), the Vice President for Academic Affairs of NTU (Provost) (臺大教務長), and the Director-General of Engineering and Technologies Department in the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Taiwan (科技部工程司司長). Her research interests include AI for 6G, LEO satellite networks, semantic communications and edge AI, and vehicle-to-everything technologies.
Prof. Liao is an Associated Editor of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, and was an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, and IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and on the Steering Committee of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing. She has been very active in IEEE and Communications Society (ComSoc), including serving on IEEE Eric E. Sumner Award Committee, IEEE Simon Ramo Medal Committee, IEEE Fellow Committee, IEEE ComSoc Fellow Evaluation Committee, and IEEE ComSoc Board of Governors (BoG) Members-at-Large. She was an IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecturer, IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer, the IEEE ComSoc Director for Asia Pacific Region (Region 10), and the IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Lecturer Selection Committee Chair.
Prof. Liao received many research awards and recognition from government and professional organizations. She received the Outstanding EE Professor Award of Chinese IEE (中國電機工程師學會傑出電機工程教授獎) in 2006, Outstanding Research Award of National Science Council (NSC) (國科會研究傑出獎) in 2006, 2009, and 2012, K. T. Li Research Breakthrough Award (李國鼎穿石獎) in 2009, Outstanding Engineering Professor Award of Chinese Institute of Engineer (中國工程師學會傑出工程教授獎) in 2010, Teco Award (東元獎) in 2014, the Ministry of Education (MoE) Academic Award (教育部學術獎) in 2015, the Ministry of Education (MoE) National Chair Professorship (教育部國家講座主持人) in 2021, National Industry Innovation Award of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MoEA) (經濟部國家產業創新獎) in 2021, Pan Wen Yuan Outstanding Research Award (潘文淵研究傑出獎) in 2021, and Taiwan Distinguished Women in Science (台灣傑出女科學家獎) in 2025. Dr. Liao received the Outstanding Teaching Award of NTU (臺大教學傑出獎) in 2000 (top 1%) and the Excellent Teaching Award (臺大教學優良獎) (top 10%) for many times. She was a recipient of the Republic of China (R.O.C.) Distinguished Women Medal (中華民國十大傑出女青年) in 2000, and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from National Chiao-Tung University (交大傑出校友) in 2012. Dr. Liao was the Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professor and the Himax Chair Professor. She is a Fellow of the IEEE.
