Research Summary

The objective of my research is to apply recent advances in systemic and quantitative methods to examine the functional roles of mitochondria inside the cells and develop computational models of mitochondrial dynamics and energetics. The goal is to elucidate the roles of mitochondrial regulations in energy supply and demand matching, integrated cell function, and the progression of the disease. The model may ultimately be used to optimize the design of therapeutic agents in order to maximize protective effects.

An-Chi Wei received her Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2013. She continued her postdoctoral training in Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University. She then joined Department of Electrical Engineering and Graduate Institute of Biomedical Electronics and Bioinformatics at National Taiwan University.

Her main areas of research interest are using integrative computational and experimental methods to study mitochondrial biology, bioenergetics and metabolism. She is studying the roles of mitochondria in energy production, cell death and regulating cellular functions by quantitative experiments and developing biophysical based computational models.
