Major Research Areas
Research Summary
My research interest is mainly on power electronics, dc–dc and ac-dc power converter modeling and control, and power IC design.
The aim of my research is to improve converter transient response, power density, and power efficiency with reduced cost by converter control modeling and design, new control schemes development, and smarter power IC implementation.
The research could be applied to the power management of computing devices and mobile devices such as notebook, cellphone, car, server, PC, etc.

Ching-Jan Chen received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University (NTU), Taipei, Taiwan, in 2006 and 2011, respectively. From 2010 to 2011, he was a visiting scholar at the Center of Power Electronic Systems (CPES) of Virginia Tech., Blacksburg, USA. From 2011 to 2015, he was a senior engineer in the IC research and development department with Richtek Technology Corporation, Hsinchu, Taiwan. His work focused on new control scheme development and IC design of voltage regulator controller for CPU power. In 2015, he became an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taiwan, where he is currently a Professor.
His research interests include power electronics, DC-DC & AC-DC power converter control, modeling, and power IC design. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE Power Electronics Society.
He is the recipient of the Young Researcher Award from the Electrical Power Engineering Division, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Taiwan, in 2016, the Outstanding Teaching Award from NTU in 2020, the Research Contribution Award from NTU EECS in 2020, Ta-You Wu Memorial Award (吳大猷先生紀念獎) from MOST, Taiwan, in 2021, Delta Young Technology Scholar Award (台達年輕學者科技講座) in 2023, Pan Wen Yuan Foundation Exploration Research Award (潘文淵文教基金會考察研究獎助金) in 2024, and Distinguished Young Scholar Award, Taiwan IC Design (TICD) Society (台灣積體電路設計學會傑出年輕學者獎) in 2025. He is the co-recipient of the 2018 International Workshop on Power Supply on Chip (PwrSoC) Best Poster Award and the 2019 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference Asia-Pacific (ITEC-AP) Best Paper award. He served as session chair, topic chair, and financial chair in several IEEE conferences and competitions such as ECCE, ECCE-Asia, International Future Energy Challenge (IFEC), IFEEC, WiPDA Asia, ITEC-Asia Pacific, and VLSI-DAT. He is the chair of IEEE PELS Taipei Chapter (previously secretary and then vice-chair since 2018) and received the IEEE PELS Best Chapter Award in 2018. He is an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics (TPE) and IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JSTPE).
